The introduction of a common charger for multiple devices should end the scourge of planned obsolescence and cut down on electronic waste.
By autumn 2024, USB Type-C will become the common charging port for all mobile phones, tablets and cameras in the EU following agreement this week between EU Parliament and Council negotiators.
Ciarán Cuffe says this will be good for the planet and consumers.

The days when you have to carry around a bag full of different cables and chargers to power up your mobile devices are coming to an end.
By autumn 2024, USB Type-C will become the common charging port for all mobile phones, tablets and cameras in the EU following agreement this week between EU Parliament and Council negotiators.
The law is a part of a broader EU effort to make products in the EU more sustainable, to reduce electronic waste, and make consumers’ lives easier.
Green Party MEP Ciaran Cuffe says it is a great move not just for consumers but for the planet as well.

The European Parliament has backed a motion supporting Ukraine’s bid to join the EU. Fine Gael MEP Sean Kelly voted in favour of the motion to grant EU candidate status to Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova.
The Ireland South MEP also delivered a blistering attack on the French president Emmanuel Macron when he spoke in the European Parliament on Wednesday. He scolded the French President for his recent call not to humiliate Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.
Well EuroParlRadio’s Karen Coleman spoke with Sean Kelly about both Ukraine and Macron. Here’s that interview.

Granting Ukraine EU candidate status will enable the country to make the necessary reforms to become an EU member. That’s according to Fine Gael MEP Sean Kelly. The European Parliament has backed a motion supporting Ukraine’s bid to join the EU.
The Taoiseach also expressed his strong support for Ukraine’s membership application bid when he addressed the Parliament in Strasbourg yesterday.
Once a country is given candidate status, they then have to implement a series of measures to ensure the country is fit to become a member. That process can take years. And Ukraine needs to make major reforms to ensure it complies with EU rules and standards and stamp out corruption.
But Sean Kelly says granting it candidate status will help them make those reforms.

The European Parliament has backed a motion supporting Ukraine’s bid to join the EU. The speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament Ruslan Stefanchuk yesterday pleaded with MEPs to support his country’s move to become a member of the bloc.
The Taoiseach also expressed his strong support for Ukraine’s membership application bid when he addressed the European Parliament in Strasbourg yesterday.
Fine Gael MEP Sean Kelly voted in favour of the motion to grant EU candidate status to Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova.
