The new EU farm policy that has just been approved by the European Parliament, is a “missed opportunity” that won’t go far enough to help farmers or the environment.
That’s according to Green Party MEP Ciarán Cuffe who voted against the reformed CAP this week.
The new Common Agricultural Policy will come into effect in 2023. It aims to be “greener, fairer, more flexible and transparent”. But Ciarán Cuffe says the new CAP is an “outlier” that won’t effectively reduce green-house gas emissions or support farmers.
In the following interview Ciarán Cuffe speaks to EuroParlRadio editor Karen Coleman about the new CAP.

The new CAP will come into effect in 2023. Farmers will have to comply with climate and environmentally-friendly practices. The Belarusian opposition leader has called on Europe to become more proactive when facing autocracy. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya made the pleas during her address to the European Parliament today.
She also urged the EU to continue holding a consistent sanctions policy which she said would divide people around Alexander Lukashenko – the authoritarian leader of Belarus.
Yesterday the EU President said plans were underway to impose a series of sanctions against transport operators facilitating human smuggling or trafficking of people to the EU’s borders with Belarus.
It’s been alleged that some of the planes that are being used to fly people in from the Middle East to Belarus are leased through aircraft leasing companies in Ireland.
Green MEP Ciarán Cuffe says they need to be sanctioned.
