A Sinn Fein MEP is calling on his European colleagues to put pressure on the European Central Bank to cooperate with the Irish Banking inquiry. Last week the ECB president Mario Draghi said he wasn’t going to engage in any such inquiry. Matt Carthy, who represents the Midlands North West Constituency, says such a stance reflects the ECBs disregard for democratically elected Parliaments.

A proposed new EU investment fund could offer hope to millions of disillusioned Europeans. That was the promising declaration made by the EU Commission president this morning. Jean-Claude Juncker was outlining proposals for a new EU fund that’s designed to boost EU economies and create jobs. The European Commission’s investment plan proposes leveraging €21billion which is made up of EU budget and European Investment Bank monies to generate a €315 billion investment fund. Mr Juncker wants the funds to be used for a range of projects including infrastructural investments, renewable energy projects and education and training. The Fine Gael MEP Brian Hayes says Ireland could benefit greatly from the proposed fund.
