The Independent MEP Marian Harkin is warning that the agriculture industry could lose out significantly when it comes to future EU budgets. The European Parliament this week set out its position on the next long-term EU budget which begins in 2021. MEPs have prioritised certain areas such as research programmes, support to young people and small firms as well as making up for any shortfall caused by Brexit. They’ve also said the EU budget should fund new priorities such as modern and sustainable farming. Marian Harkin says Ireland needs to prepare for a tough battle ahead.

EuroParlRadio's editor Karen Coleman talks to the Fine Gael MEP Brian Hayes about the European Parliament’s proposals to create a single, clear and fair EU corporate tax regime. In a vote today in the Parliament, the vast majority of MEPs supported two reports. The first was the “Common Consolidated Corporate Tax Base” (CCCTB) which is part of a wide-ranging proposal to create a fair EU corporate tax regime. The second report creates the basis for a harmonised corporate tax system known as the Common Corporate Tax Base (CCTB). In the piece he refers to Paul Tang who is the Dutch MEP who’s been very critical of Ireland’s tax policies and who is the author of one of the reports voted on today (CCTB).

The Fine Gael MEP Brian Hayes says multi-national tech giants are paying their fair share of taxes in Ireland. And the Dublin MEP has dismissed a European Parliament vote today calling for a new fairer EU corporate tax regime. The vast majority of MEPs today voted for two reports that call for radical changes to the way companies pay their taxes in EU countries. However, the European Parliament does not have the power to impose tax regimes on EU countries. Here’s Brian Hayes.

The European Parliament has voted today for proposals to overhaul the EU’s corporate tax system. The majority of MEPs supported two reports that aim to stop corporations from using loopholes to avoid paying taxes by shifting profits to EU countries with lower taxes. The Dutch MEP Paul Tang, who was the author of one of today’s reports, says tech giants like Google, Apple and Facebook need to start paying their fair share of taxes in the countries where they do business.

The Dutch MEP Paul Tang has reiterated claims that Ireland is engaged in twenty first century piracy when it comes to enabling corporate tax avoidance. Mr Tang was speaking in the European Parliament which today will vote on proposals to overhaul the EU’s corporate tax system. The aim is to ensure that firms pay taxes where they make their profits. The introduction of a single set of EU-wide tax rules and the use of digital data to help calculate tax liabilities are all included in the plans. Mr Tang was the author of one of the reports being voted on today has also criticised his own country along with Malta and Luxembourg for their corporate tax policies.
