A Sinn Fein MEP has accused the Agriculture Commissioner Phil Hogan of prioritising the interests of corporate farming over family farmers.
The reforms of the Common Agricultural Policy, announced recently, have been criticised by MEP Matt Carthy.
The Midlands North-West representative wants to see an upper limit imposed on the direct payments to farmers, in a bid to address what he describes as widening inequality in the sector.
Matt Carthy says he does not think the limits proposed in the reform package are adequate to deal with the issue:

Fine Gael MEP for Dubin Brian Hayes calls on EU leaders to drop proposals to appoint an EU Finance Minister.

Economic and Monetary Union reform is set to be discussed at a meeting of European leaders later this month.
MEPs, meeting in Strasbourg, have been outlining their concerns ahead of that meeting.
Fine Gael MEP for Dublin, Brian Hayes, is calling for a proposal for an EU Finance Minister to be dropped.
