Time is running out to hold a November EU summit on Brexit.
That’s the view of Dublin MEP Brian Hayes.
British Prime Minister Theresa May is updating her cabinet on the talks which she has suggested are in the ‘endgame’.
The cabinet in Dublin is also being updated on the discussions.
Britain’s efforts to exit a proposed backstop, aimed at ensuring no hard border in Ireland, is understood to be a key issue yet to be resolved in the negotiations.
Fine Gael MEP for Dublin, Brian Hayes, says the decision on a Withdrawal Agreement may yet have to be taken at the scheduled December EU summit:

The European Parliament is today considering backing tough new targets for renewable energy.
In its efforts to tackle climate change, the European Union is looking to set a binding target of 32 per cent for renewables by 2030.
The new legislation being considered will also allow EU citizens generate their own energy and sell any excess back to national grids.

EU moves to ban single use plastics like cutlery, straws, cotton bud sticks and other items could lead to exciting business opportunities for entrepreneurs.
That’s according to the Fine Gael MEP Deirdre Clune. The European Parliament last week voted on a new law to ban the sale of single-use plastic products from twenty twenty one (2021).
The Ireland South MEP is urging manufacturers and entrepreneurs to avail of EU research funding to develop eco-friendly alternatives to damaging plastics.

The Fine Gael MEP Mairead McGuinness says there’s determination to ensure the principle of no hard border remains intact following the British exit from the EU.
The Midlands North-West was speaking in the European Parliament in Strasbourg where MEPs this week debated the Brexit talks following last week’s EU Summit.
The British Prime Minister Theresa May caused consternation recently when she suggested there should be a time-limit on the backstop agreement for Northern Ireland.

The European Parliament will today vote on plans to curb use of antibiotics on farms.
The proposed new law will limit the use of antimicrobials in animals as a preventative measure, to halt the spread of drug resistance from animals to humans.
If implemented, giving drugs to animals will only be allowed when justified by a vet when there’s a high risk of infection.
The plans will also curb the practice of giving drugs to a group of animals when only one shows signs of infection.

A delegation of people representing border communities against Brexit have been visiting the European Parliament this week.
The Independent MEP Marian Harkin who facilitated the visit, said the group want to ensure there will be no hardening of the border post Brexit.
And she says they want any Brexit deal to be fully compliant with the Good Friday Agreement.
