The Government needs to petition the European Commission to relax State-aid rules to help regional airports like Knock and Donegal to develop and expand.
That’s the call from Sinn Fein’s MEP Chris MacManus. He was speaking in the European Parliament where MEPs are voting this week on whether to keep some pandemic-era exceptions for the aviation sector. But Chris MacManus says those rules only benefit bigger airports.
The Midlands North-West MEP argues regional airports like Knock and Donegal need more State aid support. But the EU rules need to be changed to enable that to happen.

The introduction of a common charger for a range of portable electronic devices by the end of 2024 will benefit consumers and the planet.
So says Fine Gael MEP Deirdre Clune. She was speaking in the European Parliament where MEPs this week overwhelmingly voted for new rules to make USB type-C the common charging standard for small electronic devices by the end of 2024.
The legislation covers mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, headphones, headsets, e-readers and other portable devices. Laptops will have to be adapted to the requirements 40 months after the law enters into force.
Well Deidre Clune spoke to Karen Coleman (EuroParlRadio) in the European Parliament in Strasbourg shortly after MEPs voted for the new rules.

Fianna Fail MEP Billy Kelleher says he’s hopeful the EU and UK can resolve outstanding issues related to Brexit and the Northern Ireland Protocol.

The European Parliament today voted for a new law establishing a common charger for a whole range of mobile devices including phones, tablets, digital cameras and other portable electronics in the EU.
By the end of 2024, small and medium-sized portable electronic devices will have to be equipped with a USB Type-C charging port. The law is part of a broader effort to make products in the EU more sustainable, and to reduce electronic waste.
Green Party MEP Grace O’Sullivan spoke to Karen Coleman (EuroParlRadio) in the European Parliament in Strasbourg about this law on common chargers.
