A new leader of the British Tory party won’t make any difference when it comes to the Brexit deal agreed between the UK government and the EU.
That’s according to the Fine Gael MEP Brian Hayes who was referring to this evening’s vote of confidence in the British prime Theresa May.
Mr Hayes says he believes Mrs May will survive the vote.
However, the Dublin MEP argues that even if she loses, and a Eurosceptic Tory wins a leadership contest, there’ll be no changes to the Withdrawal agreement.

The European Parliament’s Conference of Presidents today issued a statement saying the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement “is fair and balanced”. And that it is the only deal possible and is therefore not open to renegotiation.
The Parliament’s conference of Presidents is made up of the leaders of the Parliament’s political groups along with its president and a non-attached member.
MEPs were supposed to have debated the Withdrawal Agreement this morning in the European Parliament but that debate was cancelled after Theresa May postponed a vote on her Brexit deal in the House of Commons.
Now she faces a vote of confidence within her party. The Fine Gael MEP Brian Hayes says the call for the vote is a callous and unpatriotic thing to do.

The European Parliament’s Transport Committee (which Clune is a member of) is examining EU commission proposals to expand maritime routes from Ireland to continental Europe. The plans would be particularly important if the UK crashes out of the EU without a Brexit deal.
