MEPs in the European Parliament this morning debated the fallout from last night’s Brexit vote in London. 

The EU’s Chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier said the EU profoundly regretted the outcome of the vote. While the Vice-President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans told MEPs the EU would have to prepare for any possible outcome including a disorganised no deal Brexit.

The Fine Gael MEP Brian Hayes says he doesn’t believe the problems over the deal will be resolved before the end of March when Britain is supposed to leave the EU.

The Vice President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans has told MEPs in Strasbourg the EU Commission regrets last night’s rejection of Theresa May’s Brexit deal in the House of Commons.

The European Parliament has this morning been debating the fallout of last night’s vote.

Mr Timmermans told MEPs that Brexit harms the United Kingdom and the EU. And he said they were obliged as politicians to limit that harm. Bu, he warned the EU had to prepare for any possible outcome.

The fallout from last night’s Brexit vote in the House of Commons is being discussed this morning in the European Parliament.

The EU’s chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier told MEPs it was too early to assess all the consequences of the vote.

He said yesterday’s vote showed the political conditions for the ratification of the withdrawal agreement are not yet there in London.

EU has no intention of keeping British in backstop “trap” – Kelly

Theresa May is expected to be heavily defeated by MPs when she puts her Brexit deal to a vote in the House of Commons later this evening.

The impending defeat comes despite recent assurances from the EU that the backstop arrangement for Northern Ireland would be temporary if triggered. And the EU said it would last for the shortest possible period if it came into force.

The Fine Gael Sean Kelly, who’s attending this week’s European Parliament session in Strasbourg, said those assurances are supposed to ease British fears that the backstop would keep them tied to the EU for years.

Karen Coleman talks to the Fine Gael MEP Deirdre Clune about the development of self-driving vehicles and the vote in the European Parliament today where MEPs voted for a range of proposals aimed at governing the use of driverless vehicles.

Deirdre Clune, who sits on the European Parliament’s Transport Committee, says something will also have to be done to help retrain truck drivers who’ll lose their jobs because of the growth of autonomous technologies.

According to the European Parliament, driverless vehicles will be on the EU market from twenty twenty (2020). However, there are few rules controlling the way autonomous vehicles can operate in the EU.
