It’s time to reign in companies making enormous profits from the energy crisis when they’re able to produce electricity at low cost.
So says Fine Gael MEP Sean Kelly. The European Parliament this week voted for a range of measures to tackle soaring energy costs and ease the pressure on European households and businesses.
MEPs backed EU proposals to impose windfall taxes on companies making massive profits from electricity produced at low cost such as renewables, nuclear and lignite.
Sean Kelly welcomed the move.

The Dublin MEP voted against a European Parliament resolution to ease the pressure of rapidly rising energy prices on European households and businesses. The resolution calls for a range of measures to deal with the energy crisis including better protection of vulnerable consumers and an immediate and full embargo on oil, coal, nuclear fuel and gas from Russia.
The Dublin MEP spoke to EuroParlRadio’s Karen Coleman in the European Parliament in Strasbourg about the resolution and why he voted against it.

The EU needs to do much more to tackle the energy crisis that’s leading to spiralling costs and leaving vulnerable households struggling to pay their bills.
So says Green MEP Ciaran Cuffe who this week voted against a European Parliament resolution that called for a range of measures to deal with the energy emergency. They included better protection of vulnerable consumers and an immediate and full embargo on oil, coal, nuclear fuel and gas from Russia.
But Ciaran Cuffe says the proposals aren’t strong enough.
