MEPs call for new visas for carers outside EU – Fitzgerald

Fine Gael MEP Frances Fitzgerald is calling for new visas for care workers to come into Europe from around the world.

She was speaking in the European Parliament where the majority of MEPs today backed a report calling for more investment for carers throughout the EU. They want EU countries to recognise the right to care and they say legislative measures  are needed for decent working conditions for carers.

Frances Fitzgerald says the shortage of carers in Europe means visas should be given to non-EU citizens to enable them to come to work in Europe legally.
