MEPs approve energy projects including Shannon LNG

MEPs have given their backing to an EU list of priority energy projects which includes the controversial Shannon LNG terminal in North Kerry.

If means the facility could be fast-tracked and is eligible for EU funding.

Critics say it would lead to the importation of fracked gas from the US which is contrary to Ireland’s climate targets.

This morning, parliament voted to reject a Green Party objection to the list.
