European Commission proposals to revise the Industrial Emissions Directive could jeopardise farmers’ livelihoods and make their businesses unviable. So says Fianna Fail MEP Billy Kelleher. The Industrial Emissions Directive sets EU rules for the prevention and control of pollution from industrial activities. Last April the European Commission proposed a revision of the Directive to fit with the goals of the European Green Deal.
The proposals include making changes to permit requirements for some farming activities including the poultry, pork and cattle sector. Billy Kelleher says these proposals could be very damaging for farmers.
He spoke to Karen Coleman in the European Parliament about the Directive and the proposed changes to it.
