Billy Kelleher has warned against any “knee-jerk” interest rate rises. The European Central Bank is trying to steady the economies of the Eurozone at a tricky time. Economists point up to global supply problems, pent up consumer demand and gas shortages as some of the reasons for rising inflation. The ECB has not ruled out interest rate rises this year. Fianna Fáil MEP, Billy Kelleher, has been following a debate on the issue in the European Parliament. Speaking from Strasbourg this morning, he warned the bank against taking drastic measures.
