Artists, authors, performers, journalists to benefit from new copyright rules – Harkin

March 26, 2019

MEPs today approved new rules that should crack down on exploitation of creative content by the internet giants.

The rules will mean that people in the creative industry such as musicians, authors, artists and news publishers will be able to negotiate better financial deals with major internet platforms that use their material.

The Independent MEP Marian Harkin says the new rules should ensure fairer payments for those creating content that’s then used by internet household names such as YouTube, Facebook and Google News.
