Members of the European Parliament have called for action to be taken to stop the ‘alarming’ spread of Lyme disease in Europe.
MEPs in Strasbourg backed a motion demanding the European Commission draw up a plan to combat the tick borne disease.
Irish representatives have expressed concern over the level of knowledge about the debilitating condition in Ireland and the treatment available.
Fine Gael MEP for Ireland South, Sean Kelly, says this is a first step in tackling and raising awareness about the issue:
